Now that I've had time to look back on this past baseball season, I will give my direct analysis.
This season, filled with so many highlights and historical feats – sucked.
-My two favorite teams finished above .500, which hasn't happened in the same year since 1992.
-The Indians went seven games into the ALCS.
-Prince Fielder nearly won the MVP.
-Ryan Braun probably won ROY.
-CC Sabathia is in a 50/50 tie with Beckett for the AL Cy Young....
So with all of these great things in my own corner happening, I still hated this season. Reasonings?
-The Cubs passed the Brewers and made it to the playoffs.
-Hafner and Sizemore blanked themselves out of stardom in the ALCS.
-The Indians blew a 3-1 game lead in the ALCS to the Red Sox, my second most hated team (behind the Cubs).
-Vlad sucked in the ALDS.
-The Rockies were crushed in Game 1 of the World Series.
-Beckett will win the Cy Young because of his postseason performance (and because he's a Red Stocking)
-Prince will lose the MVP to Matt Holliday (who also deserves it), but will be placed fourth behind Jimmy Rollins and David Wright. Rollins, though a spark-plug, did not mean more to the Phillies than Prince did to the Crew, and Wright was just the best player on a Big Market team that faded late in the season. Prince deserves the trophy as much as Holliday does. However, the only difference is Holliday's team made the postseason.
-Braun will likely lose the ROY to Troy T of Colorado. Because, well, Troy was clutch for a team that made the playoffs.
-Which brings me to my next point – Ned Yost is one of the worst managers in baseball. Not only did he singlehandedly lose 9-15 games by himself for managerial errors, those errors cost not only Milwaukee a playoff birth and division title, but the top two awards given out to fielders! Eric Wedge, on the other hand, took a very talented team that was very inconsistent (outside of Vic Martinez, CC and Fausto Carmona) and went to the ALCS.
-Milwaukee needs another starting pitcher (no more of this Claudio Vargas and Dave Bush crap). Maybe they should trade Hall, Gwynn, or both. Milwaukee also will need another quality outfielder to add to the bunch. They also need to bring back BOTH Francisco Cordero and Scott Linebrink.
-Cleveland needs to keep its lineup. This team went to the ALCS and lost in seven to the team who won the most games this season. Just think, not only did they lose, but Hafner, Sizemore, Peralta, and Garko struggled not only in the regular season for the most part, but also the playoffs. Getting just Hafner and Sizemore going outside of Martinez gives your team as good of a top of the lineup as is out there.
-If Cleveland doesn't bring back Lofton, I can see them making a pitch to get Coco Crisp back from the BoSox (after the original deal, in which I never understood in the first place). If they get Crisp for, say, Trot Nixon (straight up, which I would like to think BoSox Nation would love and take), Crisp would be the perfect two hitter behind Sizemore, and a fantastic LFer – again.
1. Sizemore, CF
2. Crisp, LF
3. Hafner, DH
4. Martinez, C
5. Garko, 1B
6. Peralta, SS
7. Gutierrez, RF
8. Blake, 3B
9. Cabrera, 2B
Bench: Shoppach (C), Barfield (2B, unless traded), Marte (3B, unless traded), Dellucci (OF), Michaels (OF), Rouse (Inf)
That would be a quality lineup with only Blake as the only possible Iron Glove candidate.
Outside of Milwaukee (a team in which I analyzed roster changes in a previous post) and Cleveland, I really don't analyze any other teams unless asked to.
-A-Rod will still be an Angel next year (in my own opinion).
-Posada will be a Giant. Mo Rivera will be a Cub.
-Adam Dunn will be back with the Reds.
-Mike Lowell will be a Giant.
-Cory Koskie will be a Red Suck.
-As for the rest of the free agent list, when I get my hands on it after the WS finishes, I will put down my predictions, who should go after everyone, and yada yada yada.
I really don't know why this season sucked in my eyes. Usually a Biggio siting, A-Rod, 500 milestones, Clemens, Brewers and Indians winning, and all the other mumbo jumbo is primed to be a fantastic season. But I think the disappointment in the Tribe blowing the LCS, the Crew blowing the Central, and my still hatred for the Red Sox and Cubs (and the fact that there is still no instant replay) makes me hate this season...
On a side note, I'm thinking of paying Blogger for more use out of my blog (different backgrounds, settings, polls, other things). Will anyone who reads this please chime in on whether or not it will be worth my money? I know people read this, I can see IP Addresses, and it makes me happy knowing someone really is reading it.
Thanks boys and girls
Off the top of my head...
A blog because I felt like blogging
